Voice of Democracy

For students in grades 9–12 by October 31 in eligible public, private, parochial, or home study programs, including qualifying overseas dependents. The national form specifies permanent-residence requirements. Foreign exchange students, people age 20 or older, and GED/adult education students are ineligible. Georgia additionally excludes previous first-place state winners; ask the Georgia chair if that applies.

• Record a 3–5 minute English audio essay in MP3 format; the form allows a maximum five-second variation. Submit audio, a typed essay, and the signed current form with parent/guardian consent.
• Use your own writing and voice. No music, singing, poetry, sound effects, or video. Inappropriate AI use is prohibited. Keep the essay anonymous.
• A flash drive or other permitted electronic delivery can carry the recording. Enter through only one Post. Georgia requests a photograph for state entries.
• Students with hearing or speech impairments should request special instructions from youthscholarships@vfw.org.

Confirm arrangements with a participating Post before delivering the recording, essay, and form. Email needs Post permission. Use Scholars App only with a link or QR code from the participating Post. National Headquarters does not accept direct student entries. Post 12239’s submission route is unconfirmed.

The national first-place scholarship is $35,000, paid to an eligible U.S. college, university, or vocational/technical school. Georgia lists first, second, and third place awards of $1,000, $750, and $500. Do not assume a local Post award.
