Scout of the Year

Eligible award holders include Eagle Scout, Girl Scout Gold Award, Venture Summit Award, and Sea Scout Quartermaster recipients who meet the active membership requirements. National rules specify no minimum age, while Georgia’s page and current flyer require age 15 and the flyer requires high school enrollment. Applicants affected by this difference should confirm eligibility with the Georgia chair before preparing an entry. The upper age rule is 18, with eligibility retained for those turning 18 during the nomination year if still in high school at the submission deadline. Previous national winners are ineligible.

• Signed application with Scout, unit leader, and parent/guardian certifications, plus a uniformed photograph (recommended 3 × 5 inches).
• One single-sided page of school activities; up to three single-sided pages of Scouting history; one single-sided page of community service outside school and Scouting.
• Three recommendations: Scout leader, community member, and teacher/faculty member (a parent may serve for home schooling). Each is limited to two pages. Up to two additional community recommendations are allowed within the brochure’s limits.
• No essay theme or separate essay length is specified. Use the complete official checklist.

Submit the complete entry to one participating Post by March 1, 2027. The Post advances its winner to Georgia by April 1, 2027; Georgia forwards its winner to national by May 1, 2027. Individuals do not submit directly to state or national. No Georgia district deadline is published. Georgia’s web page also lists Post judging by March 31 and state judging by April 30; confirm those intermediate arrangements with the chair. No deadline cutoff time is published.

The Georgia 2026–27 flyer lists $1,000 and a citation for first place, $750 for second, and $500 for third. Confirm national awards through the official program. Local awards are unconfirmed.
