The officers elected to serve Post 12239, and the responsibilities behind each role.

Elected Leadership

Commander

Leads meetings, carries out Post decisions, and ensures VFW rules, financial safeguards and reporting requirements are followed.

Senior Vice Commander

Assists the Commander, helps maintain order and presides when the Commander is absent.

Terrance Lackey

Junior Vice Commander

Assists the Commander and presides when both the Commander and Senior Vice Commander are absent.

Jim Adams

Quartermaster

Safeguards Post funds, pays authorized expenses, maintains financial records and reports, and processes membership dues.

Mike Tlacil

First Year Trustee

Shares responsibility for reviewing finances, quarterly audits and reporting on all Post accounts and activities.

David Petty

Second Year Trustee

Shares responsibility for reviewing finances, quarterly audits and reporting on all Post accounts and activities.

Tressa Lackey

Third Year Trustee

Shares responsibility for reviewing finances, quarterly audits and reporting on all Post accounts and activities.

These seven confirmed officers match the elected offices required by current National Bylaws. Any additional elected offices under Post 12239’s own bylaws remain to be confirmed.

Appointed Positions & Responsibilities

These descriptions explain Post roles; they do not confirm that every position is currently filled at Post 12239. The Commander appoints the Adjutant and Chaplain. A Benefits Advisor may also be appointed.

Adjutant

Keeps meeting minutes, official correspondence, membership records and required reports.

Ron Coulter

Chaplain

Offers spiritual support, comforts members and families, and leads prayers and remembrance ceremonies.

Benefits Advisor

Connects veterans and families with local services and refers federal benefits questions to the Department Service Officer. Formerly called Post Service Officer.

Community Service Chair

Coordinates local service projects and records the Post’s community service work.

Youth & Scholarship Chair

Helps schools and students participate in programs such as Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen.

Buddy Poppy Chair

Organizes Buddy Poppy distribution to support veterans and their families through the Post relief fund.

Offices governed by Post bylaws

Judge Advocate, Surgeon, Officer of the Day and Guard may be elected or appointed when required by Post bylaws. Their selection method at Post 12239 has not been confirmed; they are not listed here as confirmed appointments.

Judge Advocate

Advises the Commander on VFW rules and procedure. The Commander makes rulings, subject to appeal.

Surgeon

Performs duties assigned under VFW rules and lawful orders. The national Post duty clause does not specify a separate clinical or medical-care portfolio.

Checks meeting attendance eligibility and guides ceremonial and initiation activities under the VFW Ritual.

Attends the meeting entrance and admits members as directed under the VFW Ritual.
